Community development is a development approach developed by several parties, among others like, the government, companies and non governmental organizations. Then, several terms in the replacement of the community development arise. In 2007, the government launched the Program Nasional Pemberdayaan Masyarakat - PNPM (National Program for Community Empowerment). Companies also introduced the term of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) as a means to develop the community. Meanwhile, NGO's promote such terms as community planning, community based natural resources management, etc. All of these terms have the same essence, namely the community empowerment.

The same things occur at PT Kalimantan Prima Persada. For 6 years, it has conducted some Community Development programs, which include 6 main activities, namely Economic Development and Improvement, Vocational Education and Development, Community Health and Nutrition, Social,Culture, and Religion, Environmental Management, Relation with the Government and Company's Security.
